Current climate in tuition

In Singapore, it is common practice for students to take up tuition, including Chemistry tuition It may come off as a surprise to some but ask a random student if they are taking tuition, and the answer is likely to be yes. A more interesting fact is that some students take up multiple tuitions, one for each subject. That means a lot of money is being invested in their education, outside of their expenses at school. A very important question that arises then is whether students are making their money’s worth with the tuition they take up. This article seeks to discuss how students can make full use of their Chemistry tuition lessons with Chemistry tutors.

Pre-Lesson

It is important for students to prepare ahead for their Chemistry tuition lessons. Before the lesson, students should take the initiative to consult their Chemistry tutors as to what topics are to be covered in class. They should then read up on these topics using available resources such as their textbook, tuition notes, and school notes. In doing so, this allows them to be familiar with the content and makes it easier to comprehend concepts that the Chemistry tutor would discuss during lessons. This saves time for the Chemistry tuition lesson to understand the content in detail and spend more time discussing areas of the subject that may be more complicated. This time can also be used to clarify misconceptions about the subject.

During the Lesson

During lessons, it is imperative for students to remain highly attentive. Students should ensure they do not arrive for Chemistry tuition lessons tired as this would affect their productivity and hence take-away from the lesson. Students should also ensure they arrive in time for all lessons, to maximize time with their Chemistry tutor. It is important for them to make full use of the available time and resources they receive when paying for the Chemistry tuition. During the lessons, students should avoid attempting practice questions, if not it will not be worth their investment into the Chemistry tutor. Students should seek Chemistry tuition that provides lessons covering content and discussing techniques and skills. While it is likely this content may have already been covered in school, a revision of the content serves to boost their understanding and refresh their memory with the topic. It also allows them to test what they have learned and whether they can recall all the key information previously taught.

Additionally, students should pick out questions and sections of the topics they find difficult. This allows them to become familiar with important content and learn the techniques required to tackle such difficult questions.

Post-Lesson

Once done with their Chemistry tuition lesson, students should collate their notes and retain their work completed in class. This would come in handy down the road when preparing for tests and examinations. Students should use files to store all their notes and assignments, making it easier for revision.

Within a day or so, of completing their Chemistry tuition session, tutees should revise the content learned again by attempting practice questions. In doing so, it allows them to assess whether they have understood the content discussed in school and their tuition lessons. IF they do face difficulties with any question, it should not alarm them. It is better for them to identify their weaker areas beforehand, so that with the help of their Chemistry tutor they may tackle these issues.

Following these steps would allow a student to maximize their money’s worth in not just Chemistry tuition, but even with other tuitions.
